Zapin derived from the Arabic language is "Zafn" having the meaning of rapidmovement of the feet tramp blows followed. Zapin a Malay dance repertory thatthe influence of the Arabs. This traditional dance is instructive and entertaining at the same time, used as a propaganda medium Islamiyah through lyric songs aresung Zapin.
Music retinue consists of two main tools is a stringed musical instrument lyre andthree small drum percussion instrument called marwas. Prior to 1960, Zapin onlydanced by male dancers but is now commonly danced by female dancersdancers even mix of men to women.
Zapin dance very wide variety of dance movements, although the basic motion is basically the same Zapin her, danced by the people in the east and west coastof Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Riau Islands, the coast of Borneoand Brunei Darussalam.
